The Second Annual Winter Blast benefitting Collaborations for Resiliency in Children was just that, a real blast. The gala event, Casino Royale, had to be postponed for two weeks when a wintery blast of heavy snow kept ticketed party-goers at home by the fireside. But, even with the change in date, a sell-out crowd of 200 folks turned out to rub elbows with James Bond wanna-bes. There was such a roar of laughter coming from Jasper’s Crust restaurant that 15 folks who were just strolling by anted up to buy a ticket. Now, that’s a party!
Poker, blackjack and roulette were just a few of the games of chance that kept players’ gaming hopes high. With wads of funny money to spend, prizes galore, including restaurant certificates, vacations, original art and jewelry, were up for bid when tables closed. Fuzzy Bears, Casino Royale’s signature drink, kept folks warm, while the BC Boys kept the rock ‘n roll pounding all night long.
This was an educational party too – for those novices who didn’t know a chip from a call, the official and very professional table boss taught the fine art of gaming. There wasn’t a mark in the place.
Collaborations for Resiliency in Children is dedicated to helping kids get back on track after suffering some form of trauma in their young lives. Intervention services are provided to children who suffer from addictions, academic failure or social deficits. Some children come out of the school or court systems while others simply find their way to Collaborations in dire need of counseling and help.
Jacque Jacobs, founder and CEO of Collaborations, is a Big Canoe resident; her husband David serves as board chair. When the organization first started, Jacque was the only counselor to serve all the children in Pickens County. The professional staff has grown to six in just the last year and Collaborations is now able to serve every child who comes through the door in need of help.
The $10,000 raised from Winter Blast Casino Royale will be used for trauma intervention programs for children in Pickens County.
